Simple Ways to Beat the Heat!
Summer fun is great, but rising temps can be risky. Keep yourself cool and safe with these easy tips:
• Drink more water than you think you need. The CDC recommends drinking 1 cup (8 ounces) every 15–20 minutes when being active in the heat.
• Find or make a cool spot to relax. Shady trees or umbrellas can help.
• Plan outdoor activities for early in the day or later in the evening.
• Use sunblock or sunscreen and reapply regularly. A good baseline is every two hours. This helps prevent UV exposure and reduces the risk of skin cancer later in life.
• Know your risks. Children, those who are pregnant, and adults over 65 are at a greater risk of heat-related illnesses.
• Feeling off? Get help right away. Symptoms of overheating can include muscle cramping, unusually heavy sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, and more.
Enjoy the sunshine safely while you're out this weekend!
